Workshop on Driving Export Market Performance Focuses on Languages

We participated in a great workshop yesterday that focused on identifying the key skills, at a national level, that are needed for driving export performance in Ireland. This workshop was attended by executives from the multinational sector including Intel, Abbott, SAP & the American Chamber of Commerce, well as Irish exporters: Odenberg and RPS Group.  Stakeholder organisations were represented by Enterprise Ireland, IBEC, FORFAS as well as the 3^rd level colleges.

Cipherion report on the Irish Exporters Association’s 2011 Year End Review

We attended the launch of the Irish Exporter’s Association (IEA) 2011 Year End Review today at the IEA offices in Merrion Square. John Whelan, CEO of IEA, delivered a robust and realistic overview of Ireland’s export performance last year and highlighted a number of government-level actions that need to be immediately taken.

Can Irish CEO’s Learn from Japan by adopting an “English plus One” Export Strategy?

At a reception in the Japanese Embassy in Dublin last week, there was an interesting  discussion about one topic that’s hot with Japanese CEOs, i.e. the need for Japanese exporters to adopt a “China plus One” export strategy.

Hotels: How to gain international market share

This week’s 2011 outlook for the Irish hotel sector, published by BDO, got me thinking about how Irish hotels can gain market share from mainland Europe.  The outlook shows that there is optimism in the tourism industry, but I wonder whether this optimism is well founded when only 10% of bed nights come from continental Europe.

The Word on the Street: Upbeat impressions from the sales community in Ireland

I was at the Sales Institute’s National Sales Conference last Thursday and if ever we needed proof, after the last few momentous weeks, of Ireland’s economic tide turning, then it was the ‘Can Do’ spirit that swirled around this event!  The theme was ‘Maximising Sales Performance’ and the room was heaving – a great community networking event chaired by Dragon’s Den Sean Gallagher.
