Workshop on Driving Export Market Performance Focuses on Languages

Workshop on driving export perfomanceWe participated in a great workshop yesterday that focused on identifying the key skills, at a national level, that are needed for driving export performance in Ireland. This workshop was attended by executives from the multinational sector including Intel, Abbott, SAP & the American Chamber of Commerce, well as Irish exporters: Odenberg and RPS Group.  Stakeholder organisations were represented by Enterprise Ireland, IBEC, FORFAS as well as the 3rd level colleges. This week’s 2011 outlook for the Irish hotel sector, published by BDO, got me thinking about how Irish hotels can gain market share from mainland Europe.  The outlook shows that there is optimism in the tourism industry, but I wonder whether this optimism is well founded when only 10% of bed nights come from continental Europe.
